mayaitad uktaḿ vo viprā
guhyaḿ yat sāńkhya-yogayoḥ
jānīta māgataḿ yajñaḿ
yuṣmad-dharma-vivakṣayā
maya -- by Me; etat -- this (knowledge); uktam -- has been spoken; vah -- unto you; viprah -- O brahmanas; guhyam -- confidential; yat -- which; sankhya -- of the philosophical method of distinguishing matter from spirit; yogayoh -- and the ashtanga-yoga system; janita -- please understand; ma -- Me; agatam -- who has arrived; yajnam -- as Vishnu, the Supreme Lord of sacrifice; yushmat -- your; dharma -- religious duties; vivakshaya -- with the desire to explain.
To increase the faith of Lord Brahma's sons and establish the prestige of His teachings, Lord Krishna now formally identifies Himself as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Vishnu. As stated in Vedic literature, yajno vai vishnuh. After explaining the sankhya-and ashtanga-yoga systems, the Lord clearly answers the original question of the sages, "Who are You, sir?" Thus, Lord Brahma and his sons were enlightened by Lord Hamsa.
