yayāca ānamya kirīṭa-koṭibhiḥ
pādau spṛśann acyutam artha-sādhanam
siddhārtha etena vigṛhyate mahān
aho surāṇāḿ ca tamo dhig āḍhyatām
yayaca -- he (Lord Indra) begged; anamya -- bowing down; kirita -- of his crown; kotibhih -- with the tips; padau -- His feet; sprisan -- touching; acyutam -- to Lord Krishna; artha -- his (Indra's) purpose; sadhanam -- who fulfilled; siddha -- fulfilled; arthah -- whose purpose; etena -- with Him; vigrihyate -- He quarrels; mahan -- the great soul; aho -- indeed; suranam -- of the demigods; ca -- and; tamah -- the ignorance; dhik -- damnation; adhyatam -- upon their wealth.
It is well known that material wealth and power tend to produce arrogance, and thus an opulent life can often be the royal road to hell.
