sa ikṣvāku-kule jāto

māndhātṛ-tanayo mahān

mucukunda iti khyāto

brahmaṇyaḥ satya-sańgaraḥ

sri-sukah uvaca -- Sukadeva Gosvami said; sah -- he; ikshvaku-kule -- in the dynasty of Ikshvaku (grandson of Vivasvan, the sun-god); jatah -- born; mandhatri-tanayah -- the son of King Mandhata; mahan -- the great personality; mucukundah iti khyatah -- known as Mucukunda; brahmanyah -- devoted to the brahmanas; satya -- true to his vow; sangarah -- in battle.

Sukadeva Gosvami said: Mucukunda was the name of this great personality, who was born in the Ikshvaku dynasty as the son of Mandhata. He was devoted to brahminical culture and always true to his vow in battle.
