gopyah -- the gopis; ca -- and; dayitam -- their beloved; krishnam -- Krishna; anuvrajya -- following; anuranjitah -- pleased; pratyadesam -- some instruction in reply; bhagavatah -- from the Lord; kankshantyah -- hoping for; ca -- and; avatasthire -- they stood.

[With His glances] Lord Krishna somewhat pacified the gopis, and they also followed behind for some time. Then, hoping He would give them some instruction, they stood still.
