taḿ tuṣṭuvur deva-nikāya-ketavo
hy avākiraḿś cādbhuta-puṣpa-vṛṣṭibhiḥ
lokāḥ parāḿ nirvṛtim āpnuvaḿs trayo
gāvas tadā gām anayan payo-drutām
tam -- Him; tushtuvuh -- praised; deva-nikaya -- of all the demigods; ketavah -- the most eminent; hi -- indeed; avakiran -- they covered Him; ca -- and; adbhuta -- amazing; pushpa -- of flowers; vrishtibhih -- with showers; lokah -- the worlds; param -- supreme; nirvritim -- satisfaction; apnuvan -- experienced; trayah -- three; gavah -- the cows; tada -- then; gam -- the earth; anayan -- brought; payah -- with their milk; drutam -- to saturation.
The word ketavah means, literally, "banners." The leading demigods are the emblems, or banners, of the demigod race, and they took the lead in glorifying the Lord and covering Him with an amazing shower of multicolored, fragrant flowers.
