तं सात्यजन्नदीतोये कृच्छ्राल्लोकस्य बिभ्यती ।
प्रपितामहस्तामुवाह पाण्डुर्वै सत्यविक्रमः ॥३६॥

taá¹ sÄtyajan nadÄ«-toye
ká¹›cchrÄl lokasya bibhyatÄ«
prapitÄmahas tÄm uvÄha
pÄṇá¸ur vai satya-vikramaḥ

 tam - that child;  - she (KuntÄ«); atyajat - gave up; nadÄ«-toye - in the water of the river; ká¹›cchrÄt - with great repentance; lokasya - of the people in general; bibhyatÄ« - fearing; prapitÄmahaḥ - (your) great-grandfather; tÄm - her (KuntÄ«); uvÄha - married; pÄṇá¸uḥ - the king known as PÄṇá¸u; vai - indeed; satya-vikramaḥ - very pious and chivalrous.

Because KuntÄ« feared people’s criticisms, with great difficulty she had to give up her affection for her child. Unwillingly, she packed the child in a basket and let it float down the waters of the river. O MahÄrÄja ParÄ«ká¹£it, your great-grandfather the pious and chivalrous King PÄṇá¸u later married KuntÄ«.
