सर्वे लीलावतारास्ते भूतानां भूतिहेतवः ।
ज्ञातुमिच्छाम्यदो रूपं यदर्थं भवता धृतम् ॥२९॥

jñÄtum icchÄmy ado rÅ«paá¹
yad-arthaá¹ bhavatÄ dhá¹›tam

 sarve - everything; lÄ«lÄ - pastimes; avatÄrÄḥ - incarnations; te - of Your Lordship; bhÅ«tÄnÄm - of all living entities; bhÅ«ti - of a flourishing condition; hetavaḥ - the causes; jñÄtum - to know; icchÄmi - I wish; adaḥ - this; rÅ«pam - form; yat-artham - for what purpose; bhavatÄ - by Your Lordship; dhá¹›tam - assumed.

All Your pastimes and incarnations certainly appear for the welfare of all living entities. Therefore, my Lord, I wish to know the purpose for which You have assumed this form of a fish.
