श्रीशुक उवाच
इति दानवदैतेया नाविन्दन्नमृतं नृप ।
युक्ताः कर्मणि यत्ताश्च वासुदेवपराङ्मुखाः ॥१॥

nÄvindann amá¹›taá¹ ná¹›pa
yuktÄḥ karmaṇi yattÄÅ› ca
vÄsudeva-parÄá¹…mukhÄḥ

 Å›rÄ«-Å›ukaḥ uvÄca - ÅšrÄ« Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« said; iti - thus; dÄnava-daiteyÄḥ - the asuras and the demons; na - not; avindan - achieved (the desired result); amá¹›tam - nectar; ná¹›pa - O King; yuktÄḥ - all being combined; karmaṇi - in the churning; yattÄḥ - engaged with full attention and effort; ca - and; vÄsudeva - of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa; parÄá¹…mukhÄḥ - because of being nondevotees.

Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« said: O King, the demons and Daityas all engaged with full attention and effort in churning the ocean, but because they were not devotees of VÄsudeva, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa, they were not able to drink the nectar.
