व्यात्ताननान्तं विलिहन्स्वजिह्वया ।
असृग्लवाक्तारुणकेशराननो
यथान्त्रमाली द्विपहत्यया हरिः ॥३०॥

vyÄttÄnanÄntaá¹ vilihan sva-jihvayÄ
asá¹›g-lavÄktÄruṇa-keÅ›arÄnano
yathÄntra-mÄlÄ« dvipa-hatyayÄ hariḥ
saá¹rambha - because of great anger; duá¹£preká¹£ya - very difficult to look at; karÄla - very fearful; locanaḥ - eyes; vyÄtta - expanded; Änana-antam - the edge of the mouth; vilihan - licking; sva-jihvayÄ - with His tongue; asá¹›k-lava - with spots of blood; Äkta - smeared; aruṇa - reddish; keÅ›ara - mane; Änanaḥ - and face; yathÄ - just as; antra-mÄlÄ« - decorated with a garland of intestines; dvipa-hatyayÄ - by the killing of an elephant; hariḥ - the lion.
Lord Ná¹›siá¹hadeva’s mouth and mane were sprinkled with drops of blood, and His fierce eyes, full of anger, were impossible to look at. Licking the edge of His mouth with His tongue, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Ná¹›siá¹hadeva, decorated with a garland of intestines taken from HiraṇyakaÅ›ipu’s abdomen, resembled a lion that has just killed an elephant.
The hair on Lord Ná¹›siá¹hadeva’s face, being sprinkled with drops of blood, was reddish and looked very beautiful. Lord Ná¹›siá¹hadeva pierced HiraṇyakaÅ›ipu’s abdomen with His nails, pulled out the demon’s intestines and wore them as a garland, which enhanced His beauty. Thus the Lord became very fearsome, like a lion engaged in fighting an elephant.
