एवं कुलिङ्गं विलपन्तमारात्
प्रियावियोगातुरमश्रुकण्ठम् ।
स एव तं शाकुनिकः शरेण
विव्याध कालप्रहितो विलीनः ॥५६॥

vivyÄdha kÄla-prahito vilÄ«naḥ

 evam - thus; kuliá¹…gam - the bird; vilapantam - while lamenting; ÄrÄt - from a distance; priyÄ-viyoga - because of the loss of his wife; Äturam - very aggrieved; aÅ›ru-kaṇṭham - with tears in the eyes; saḥ - he (that hunter); eva - indeed; tam - him (the male bird); Å›Äkunikaḥ - who could kill even a vulture; Å›areṇa - by an arrow; vivyÄdha - pierced; kÄla-prahitaḥ - being moved by time; vilÄ«naḥ - hidden.


Text

Because of the loss of his wife, the kuliá¹…ga bird lamented with tears in his eyes. Meanwhile, following the dictations of mature time, the hunter, who was very carefully hidden in the distance, released his arrow, which pierced the body of the kuliá¹…ga bird and killed him.
