yas tu mahÄ-kadambaḥ supÄrÅ›va-nirÅ«á¸ho yÄs tasya koá¹arebhyo viniḥsá¹›tÄḥ pañcÄyÄma-pariṇÄhÄḥ pañca madhu-dhÄrÄḥ supÄrÅ›va-Å›ikharÄt patantyo 'pareṇÄtmÄnam ilÄvá¹›tam anumodayanti
yaḥ - which; tu - but; mahÄ-kadambaḥ - the tree named MahÄkadamba; supÄrÅ›va-nirÅ«á¸haḥ - which stands on the side of the mountain known as SupÄrÅ›va; yÄḥ - which; tasya - of that; koá¹arebhyaḥ - from the hollows; viniḥsá¹›tÄḥ - flowing; pañca - five; ÄyÄma - vyÄma, a unit of measurement of about eight feet; pariṇÄhÄḥ - whose measurement; pañca - five; madhu-dhÄrÄḥ - flows of honey; supÄrÅ›va-Å›ikharÄt - from the top of SupÄrÅ›va Mountain; patantyaḥ - flowing down; apareṇa - on the western side of Sumeru Mountain; ÄtmÄnam - the whole of; ilÄvá¹›tam - IlÄvá¹›ta-vará¹£a; anumodayanti - make fragrant.
The distance between one hand and another when one spreads both his arms is called a vyÄma. This comes to about eight feet. Thus each of the rivers was about forty feet wide, making a total of about two hundred feet.
