maitreyaḼ uvÄca - the great sage Maitreya said; saḼ - the King; evam - thus; brahma-putreáša - by the son of Lord BrahmÄ; kumÄreáša - by one of the KumÄras; Ätma-medhasÄ - well versed in spiritual knowledge; darĹita - being shown; Ätma-gatiḼ - spiritual advancement; samyak - completely; praĹasya - worshiping; uvÄca - said; tam - unto him; nášpaḼ - the King.
In this verse the word Ätma-medhasÄ is commented upon by ĹrÄŤpÄda ViĹvanÄtha CakravartÄŤ ᚏhÄkura, who says that Ätmani means âunto Lord KášášŁáša, paramÄtmani.â Lord KášášŁáša is ParamÄtmÄ: ÄŤĹvaraḼ paramaḼ kášášŁášaḼ (Brahma-saášhitÄ 15.1). Therefore one whose mind is acting fully in KášášŁáša consciousness is called Ätma-medhÄḼ. This may be contrasted to the word gášha-medhÄŤ, which refers to one whose brain is always engrossed with thoughts of material activities. The Ätma-medhÄḼ is always thinking of KášášŁášaâs activities in KášášŁáša consciousness. Since Sanat-kumÄra, who was a son of Lord BrahmÄ, was fully KášášŁáša conscious, he could point out the path of spiritual advancement. The word Ätma-gatiḼ refers to that path of activities by which one can make progress in understanding KášášŁáša.
