मैत्रेय उवाच
इत्थं स लोकगुरुणा समादिष्टो विशाम्पतिः ।
तथा च कृत्वा वात्सल्यं मघोनापि च सन्दधे ॥३९॥

samÄdiṣṭo viÅ›Ämpatiḥ
tathÄ ca ká¹›tvÄ vÄtsalyaá¹
maghonÄpi ca sandadhe

 maitreyaḥ uvÄca - the great sage Maitreya continued to speak; ittham - thus; saḥ - King Pá¹›thu; loka-guruá¹‡Ä - by the original teacher of all people, Lord BrahmÄ; samÄdiṣṭaḥ - being advised; viÅ›Äm-patiḥ - the king, master of the people; tathÄ - in that way; ca - also; ká¹›tvÄ - having done; vÄtsalyam - affection; maghonÄ - with Indra; api - even; ca - also; sandadhe - concluded peace.

The great sage Maitreya continued: When King Pá¹›thu was thus advised by the supreme teacher, Lord BrahmÄ, he abandoned his eagerness to perform yajñas and with great affection concluded a peace with King Indra.
