ká¹£ut-pipÄse tataḥ syÄtÄá¹
samudras tv etayor abhūt
athÄsya há¹›dayaá¹ bhinnaá¹
há¹›dayÄn mana utthitam
ká¹£ut-pipÄse - hunger and thirst; tataḥ - then; syÄtÄm - appeared; samudraḥ - the ocean; tu - then; etayoḥ - in their wake; abhÅ«t - appeared; atha - then; asya - of the universal form; há¹›dayam - a heart; bhinnam - appeared; há¹›dayÄt - from the heart; manaḥ - the mind; utthitam - appeared.
The ocean is considered to be the presiding deity of the abdomen, where the feelings of hunger and thirst originate. When there is an irregularity in hunger and thirst, one is advised, according to Āyurvedic treatment, to take a bath in the ocean.
