अथात्रापीतिहासोऽयं श्रुतो मे वर्णितः पुरा ।
ब्रह्मणा देवदेवेन देवानामनुपृच्छताम् ॥७॥

athÄtrÄpÄ«tihÄso 'yaá¹
Å›ruto me varṇitaḥ purÄ
brahmaá¹‡Ä deva-devena
devÄnÄm anupá¹›cchatÄm

 atha - now; atra - in this matter; api - also; itihÄsaḥ - history; ayam - this; Å›rutaḥ - heard; me - by me; varṇitaḥ - described; purÄ - years ago; brahmaá¹‡Ä - by BrahmÄ; deva-devena - the foremost of the demigods; devÄnÄm - by the demigods; anupá¹›cchatÄm - asking.

This history of the fight between the Lord as a boar and the demon HiraṇyÄká¹£a was heard by me in a year long ago as it was described by the foremost of the demigods, BrahmÄ, when he was questioned by the other demigods.
