 saḥ - he; kadÄcit - on one occasion; bhraman - while wandering; tasmin - in that water; pá¹›thivyÄḥ - of earth; kakudi - upon a raised place; dvijaḥ - the brÄhmaṇa; nyÄgrodha-potam - a young banyan tree; dadṛśe - saw; phala - with fruits; pallava - and blossoms; Å›obhitam - decorated.

Once, while wandering in the water, the brÄhmaṇa MÄrkaṇá¸eya discovered a small island, upon which stood a young banyan tree bearing blossoms and fruits.
