sa viÅ›vas taijasaḥ prÄjñas
turīya iti vṛttibhiḥ
arthendriyÄÅ›aya-jñÄnair
bhagavÄn paribhÄvyate

 saḥ - He; viÅ›vaḥ taijasaḥ prÄjñaḥ - the manifestations of waking consciousness, sleep and deep sleep; turÄ«yaḥ - the fourth, transcendental stage; iti - thus termed; vá¹›ttibhiḥ - by the functions; artha - by the external objects of perception; indriya - the mind; ÄÅ›aya - covered consciousness; jñÄnaiḥ - and spiritual knowledge; bhagavÄn - the Personality of Godhead; paribhÄvyate - is conceived of.

One can conceive of the Supreme Personality of Godhead in terms of awakened consciousness, sleep and deep sleep — which function respectively through external objects, the mind and material intelligence — and also in terms of the fourth, transcendental level of consciousness, which is characterized by pure knowledge.
