sÅ«ta uvÄca
iti candra-lalÄmasya
dharma-gahyopabá¹›á¹hitam
vaco 'má¹›tÄyanam ṛṣir
nÄtá¹›pyat karṇayoḥ piban
sÅ«taḥ uvÄca - SÅ«ta GosvÄmÄ« said; iti - thus; candra-lalÄmasya - of Lord Åšiva, who is decorated with the moon; dharma-guhya - with the secret essence of religion; upabá¹›á¹hitam - filled; vacaḥ - the words; amá¹›ta-ayanam - the reservoir of nectar; ṛṣiḥ - the sage; na atá¹›pyat - did not feel satiated; karṇayoḥ - with his ears; piban - drinking.
SÅ«ta GosvÄmÄ« said: Drinking with his ears Lord Åšiva’s nectarean words, full of the confidential essence of religion, MÄrkaṇá¸eya Ṛṣi could not be satiated.
MÄrkaṇá¸eya Ṛṣi was not eager to hear himself praised by Lord Åšiva, but he appreciated Lord Åšiva’s deep realization of religious principles and therefore desired to hear more.
