tataÅ› ca bhÄrataá¹ vará¹£aá¹
parÄ«tya su-samÄhitaḥ
caritvÄ dvÄdaÅ›a-mÄsÄá¹s
tÄ«rtha-snÄyÄ« viÅ›udhyasi
tataḥ - then; ca - and; bhÄratam vará¹£am - the land of BhÄrata (India); parÄ«tya - circumambulating; su-samÄhitaḥ - in a serious mood; caritvÄ - performing penances; dvÄdaÅ›a - twelve; mÄsÄn - months; tÄ«rtha - at holy places of pilgrimage; snÄyÄ« - bathing; viÅ›udhyasi - You will be purified.
Thereafter, for twelve months, You should circumambulate the land of BhÄrata in a mood of serious meditation, executing austerities and bathing at various holy pilgrimage sites. In this way You will become purified.
ÅšrÄ«la JÄ«va GosvÄmÄ« points out that the word viÅ›udhyasi means that Lord BalarÄma would achieve spotless fame by setting such a perfect example for the people in general.
ÅšrÄ«la PrabhupÄda writes: “The brÄhmaṇas could understand the purpose of the Lord, and thus they suggested that He atone in a manner which would be beneficial to them.â€
