Å›rÄ«-Å›uka uvÄca
svarair Äká¹›tibhis tÄá¹s tu
prakoá¹£á¹hair jyÄ-hatair api
rÄjanya-bandhÅ«n vijñÄya
dṛṣá¹a-pÅ«rvÄn acintayat
Å›rÄ«-Å›ukaḥ uvÄca - Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« said; svaraiḥ - by their voices; Äká¹›tibhiḥ - their bodily statures; tÄn - them; tu - however; prakoá¹£á¹haiḥ - by (seeing) their forearms; jyÄ - by bowstrings; hataiḥ - imprinted; api - even; rÄjanya - of royalty; bandhÅ«n - as family members; vijñÄya - recognizing; dṛṣá¹a - seen; pÅ«rvÄn - previously; acintayat - he considered.
The ÄcÄryas point out that JarÄsandha had seen Lord Kṛṣṇa, BhÄ«masena and Arjuna at Draupadī’s svayaá¹vara ceremony. Since they had come begging in the guise of brÄhmaṇas, JarÄsandha thought they must be low-class ká¹£atriyas, as indicated here by the word rÄjanya-bandhÅ«n.
