yaká¹£yati tvÄá¹ makhendreṇa
rÄjasÅ«yena pÄṇá¸avaḥ
pÄrameá¹£á¹hya-kÄmo ná¹›patis
tad bhavÄn anumodatÄm
yaká¹£yati - he will perform sacrifice; tvÄm - unto You; makha - of fire sacrifices; indreṇa - with the greatest; rÄjasÅ«yena - known as RÄjasÅ«ya; pÄṇá¸avaḥ - the son of PÄṇá¸u; pÄrameá¹£á¹hya - uncontested dominion; kÄmaḥ - desiring; ná¹›-patiḥ - the King; tat - that; bhavÄn - You; anumodatÄm - please sanction.
King Yudhiá¹£á¹hira is described here as pÄrameá¹£á¹hya-kÄma, or “desiring pÄrameá¹£á¹hya.†The word pÄrameá¹£á¹hya means “unrivaled supremacy†and also indicates “the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who stands at the very height of all existence.†Therefore, ÅšrÄ«la PrabhupÄda translates NÄrada’s message as follows: “You have inquired about Your cousins the PÄṇá¸avas in the role of their well-wisher, and therefore I shall let You know about their intentions. Now please hear me. First of all, may I inform You that King Yudhiá¹£á¹hira has all material opulences that are possible to achieve in the highest planetary system, Brahmaloka. He has no material opulence for which to aspire, and yet he wants to perform the RÄjasÅ«ya sacrifice only to get Your association and to please You.… He wants to worship You in order to achieve Your causeless mercy, and I beg to request You to fulfill his desires.â€
Since the word pÄrameá¹£á¹hya may also indicate the position of Lord BrahmÄ, the term pÄrameá¹£á¹hya-kÄma is taken here by ÅšrÄ«la PrabhupÄda to indicate not only that King Yudhiá¹£á¹hira desired Lord Kṛṣṇa’s association and mercy but also that King Yudhiá¹£á¹hira himself possessed pÄrameá¹£á¹hya, all the opulences of Lord BrahmÄ.
