dvau - two; mÄsau - months; tatra - there (in Gokula); ca - and; avÄtsÄ«t - resided; madhum - Madhu (the first month of the Vedic calendar, at the time of the spring equinox); mÄdhavam - MÄdhava (the second month); eva - indeed; ca - also; rÄmaḥ - BalarÄma; ká¹£apÄsu - during the nights; bhagavÄn - the Supreme Lord; gopÄ«nÄm - to the gopÄ«s; ratim - conjugal pleasure; Ävahan - bringing.
ÅšrÄ«la ÅšrÄ«dhara SvÄmÄ« states that the gopÄ«s who enjoyed conjugal affairs with ÅšrÄ« BalarÄma during His visit to Gokula had not taken part in ÅšrÄ« Kṛṣṇa’s rÄsa dance, being too young at the time. ÅšrÄ«la JÄ«va GosvÄmÄ« confirms this statement by quoting a phrase from the BhÄgavatam (10.15.8) — gopyo ’ntareṇa bhujayoḥ — which indicates that there are particular gopÄ«s who act as Lord BalarÄma’s girlfriends. Furthermore, JÄ«va GosvÄmÄ« states that during the HolÄ« festivities celebrated when Kṛṣṇa killed Åšaá¹…khacÅ«á¸a, the gopÄ«s Lord BalarÄma enjoyed with were different from the ones Lord Kṛṣṇa enjoyed with. ÅšrÄ«la ViÅ›vanÄtha CakravartÄ« agrees with this explanation.
