 tam - Him; Å›ambaraḥ - the demon Åšambara; kÄma - as he desired; rÅ«pÄ« - assuming forms; há¹›tvÄ - stealing; tokam - the child; aniḥ-daÅ›am - not yet ten days old; saḥ - he (Åšambara); viditvÄ - recognizing; Ätmanaḥ - his own; Å›atrum - enemy; prÄsya - throwing; udanvati - into the sea; agÄt - went; gá¹›ham - to his home.

The demon Åšambara, who could assume any form he desired, kidnapped the infant before He was even ten days old. Understanding Pradyumna to be his enemy, Åšambara threw Him into the sea and then returned home.

Purport

ÅšrÄ«la ViÅ›vanÄtha CakravartÄ« points out that according to the Viṣṇu PurÄṇa, Pradyumna was kidnapped on the sixth day after His birth.
