mÄndhÄtá¹›-tanayo mahÄn
mucukunda iti khyÄto
brahmaṇyaḥ satya-saṅgaraḥ

 Å›rÄ«-Å›ukaḥ uvÄca - Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« said; saḥ - he; iká¹£vÄku-kule - in the dynasty of Iká¹£vÄku (grandson of VivasvÄn, the sun-god); jÄtaḥ - born; mÄndhÄtá¹›-tanayaḥ - the son of King MÄndhÄtÄ; mahÄn - the great personality; mucukundaḥ iti khyÄtaḥ - known as Mucukunda; brahmaṇyaḥ - devoted to the brÄhmaṇas; satya - true to his vow; saá¹…garaḥ - in battle.

Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« said: Mucukunda was the name of this great personality, who was born in the Iká¹£vÄku dynasty as the son of MÄndhÄtÄ. He was devoted to brahminical culture and always true to his vow in battle.
