gopyaḥ - the gopÄ«s; su-mṛṣá¹a - very dazzling; maṇi - made of jewels; kuṇá¸ala - wearing earrings; niá¹£ka-kaṇá¹hyaḥ - and having little keys and lockets hanging from their necks; citra-ambarÄḥ - dressed with varieties of colored embroidery; pathi - on their way to YaÅ›odÄmayÄ«'s house; Å›ikhÄ-cyuta - fell from their hair; mÄlya-vará¹£Äḥ - a shower of flower garlands; nanda-Älayam - to the house of MahÄrÄja Nanda; sa-valayÄḥ - with bangles on their hands; vrajatīḥ - while going (in that costume); virejuḥ - they looked very, very beautiful; vyÄlola - moving; kuṇá¸ala - with earrings; payodhara - with breasts; hÄra - with flower garlands; Å›obhÄḥ - who appeared so beautiful.
The description of the gopÄ«s, who were going to the house of MahÄrÄja Nanda to welcome Kṛṣṇa, is especially significant. The gopÄ«s were not ordinary women, but expansions of Kṛṣṇa’s pleasure potency, as described in the Brahma-saá¹hitÄ (5.37,29):
Änanda-cinmaya-rasa-pratibhÄvitÄbhis
tÄbhir ya eva nija-rÅ«patayÄ kalÄbhiḥ
goloka eva nivasaty akhilÄtma-bhÅ«to

Kṛṣṇa is always worshiped by the gopÄ«s wherever He goes. Therefore Kṛṣṇa is so vividly described in ÅšrÄ«mad-BhÄgavatam. ÅšrÄ« Caitanya MahÄprabhu has also described Kṛṣṇa in this way: ramyÄ kÄcid upÄsanÄ vrajavadhÅ«-vargeṇa yÄ kalpitÄ. All these gopÄ«s were going to offer Kṛṣṇa their presentations because the gopÄ«s are eternal associates of the Lord. Now the gopÄ«s were more jubilant because of the news of Kṛṣṇa’s appearance in Vá¹›ndÄvana.
