tais taiḥ padais tat-padavīm
anvicchantyo 'grato'balÄḥ
vadhvÄḥ padaiḥ su-pá¹›ktÄni
vilokyÄrtÄḥ samabruvan

 taiḥ taiḥ - by those various; padaiḥ - footprints; tat - His; padavÄ«m - path; anvicchantyaḥ - tracing out; agrataḥ - forward; abalÄḥ - the girls; vadhvÄḥ - of His special consort; padaiḥ - with the footprints; supá¹›ktÄni - thoroughly intermingled; vilokya - noticing; ÄrtÄḥ - distressed; samabruvan - they spoke.

The gopīs began following Kṛṣṇa’s path, as shown by His many footprints, but when they saw that these prints were thoroughly intermixed with those of His dearmost consort, they became perturbed and spoke as follows.
