svairaṠcarantyo viviśus
tṛṇa-lobhena gahvaram

 Å›rÄ«-Å›ukaḥ uvÄca - ÅšrÄ« Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« said; krÄ«á¸Ä - in their playing; Äsakteá¹£u - while they were completely absorbed; gopeá¹£u - the cowherd boys; tat-gÄvaḥ - their cows; dÅ«ra-cÄriṇīḥ - wandering far away; svairam - independently; carantyaḥ - grazing; viviÅ›uḥ - they entered; tṛṇa - for grass; lobhena - out of greed; gahvaram - a dense forest.

Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« said: While the cowherd boys were completely absorbed in playing, their cows wandered far away. They hungered for more grass, and with no one to watch them they entered a dense forest.
