nÄgÄlayaá¹ ramaṇakaá¹
kathaá¹ tatyÄja kÄliyaḥ
ká¹›taá¹ kiá¹ vÄ suparṇasya
tenaikenÄsamañjasam

 Å›rÄ«-rÄjÄ uvÄca - the King said; nÄga - of the serpents; Älayam - the residence; ramaṇakam - the island named Ramaṇaka; katham - why; tatyÄja - gave up; kÄliyaḥ - KÄliya; ká¹›tam - was made; kim vÄ - and why; suparṇasya - of Garuá¸a; tena - with him, KÄliya; ekena - alone; asamañjasam - enmity.

[Having thus heard how Lord Kṛṣṇa chastised KÄliya,] King ParÄ«ká¹£it inquired: Why did KÄliya leave Ramaṇaka Island, the abode of the serpents, and why did Garuá¸a become so antagonistic toward him alone?
