Purport

The VedÄnta- or Brahma-sÅ«tra, written by ÅšrÄ«la VyÄsadeva, is a book studied by all advanced spiritual students, especially by the sannyÄsÄ«s of all religious communities (sampradÄyas). The sannyÄsÄ«s must read the VedÄnta-sÅ«tra to establish their final conclusions concerning Vedic knowledge. Here, of course, the VedÄnta mentioned is the commentary of Åšaá¹…karÄcÄrya, known as ÅšÄrÄ«raka-bhÄá¹£ya. SÄrvabhauma Bhaá¹á¹ÄcÄrya intended to convert Caitanya MahÄprabhu, who was a Vaiṣṇava sannyÄsÄ«, into a MÄyÄvÄdÄ« sannyÄsÄ«. He therefore made this arrangement to instruct Him in the VedÄnta-sÅ«tra according to the ÅšÄrÄ«raka commentary of Åšaá¹…karÄcÄrya. All the sannyÄsÄ«s of the Åšaá¹…kara-sampradÄya enjoy seriously studying the VedÄnta-sÅ«tra with the ÅšÄrÄ«raka-bhÄá¹£ya commentary. It is said, vedÄnta-vÄkyeá¹£u sadÄ ramantaḥ: “One should always enjoy the studies of the VedÄnta-sÅ«tra.â€
