In this connection it may be mentioned that sometimes the sahajiyÄ class of devotees opine that PrakÄÅ›Änanda SarasvatÄ« and PrabodhÄnanda SarasvatÄ« are the same man. PrabodhÄnanda SarasvatÄ« was a great Vaiṣṇava devotee of Lord Caitanya MahÄprabhu, but PrakÄÅ›Änanda SarasvatÄ«, the head of the MÄyÄvÄdÄ« sannyÄsÄ«s in Benares, was a different person. PrabodhÄnanda SarasvatÄ« belonged to the RÄmÄnuja-sampradÄya, whereas PrakÄÅ›Änanda SarasvatÄ« belonged to the Åšaá¹…karÄcÄrya-sampradÄya. PrabodhÄnanda SarasvatÄ« wrote a number of books, among which are the Caitanya-candrÄmá¹›ta, RÄdhÄ-rasa-sudhÄ-nidhi, Saá¹…gÄ«ta-mÄdhava, Vá¹›ndÄvana-Å›ataka and NavadvÄ«pa-Å›ataka. While traveling in southern India, Caitanya MahÄprabhu met PrabodhÄnanda SarasvatÄ«, who had two brothers, Veá¹…kaá¹a Bhaá¹á¹a and Tirumalaya Bhaá¹á¹a, who were Vaiṣṇavas of the RÄmÄnuja-sampradÄya. GopÄla Bhaá¹á¹a GosvÄmÄ« was the nephew of PrabodhÄnanda SarasvatÄ«. From historical records it is found that ÅšrÄ« Caitanya MahÄprabhu traveled in South India in the year 1433 ÅšakÄbda (A.D. 1511) during the CÄturmÄsya period, and it was at that time that He met PrabodhÄnanda, who belonged to the RÄmÄnuja-sampradÄya. How then could the same person meet Him as a member of the Åšaá¹…kara-sampradÄya in 1435 ÅšakÄbda, two years later? It is to be concluded that the guess of the sahajiyÄ-sampradÄya that PrabodhÄnanda SarasvatÄ« and PrakÄÅ›Änanda SarasvatÄ« were the same man is a mistaken idea.
