nityÄnanda-nÄme yÄá¹…ra mahonmÄda haya
navadvÄ«pe puruá¹£ottama - Puruá¹£ottama of NavadvÄ«pa; paṇá¸ita mahÄÅ›aya - a very learned scholar; nityÄnanda-nÄme - in the name of Lord NityÄnanda Prabhu; yÄá¹…ra - whose; mahÄ-unmÄda - great ecstasy; haya - becomes.
Puruá¹£ottama Paṇá¸ita, a resident of NavadvÄ«pa, was the eighth gopÄla. He would become almost mad as soon as he heard the holy name of NityÄnanda Prabhu.
It is stated in the Caitanya-bhÄgavata that Puruá¹£ottama Paṇá¸ita was born in NavadvÄ«pa and was a great devotee of Lord NityÄnanda Prabhu. As one of the twelve gopÄlas, his former name was Stokakṛṣṇa.
