prabhura ká¹›pÄya teá¹…ho kṛṣṇa-preme matta
tÄá¹…ra sthÄne - in his place; rÅ«pa-gosÄñi - ÅšrÄ«la RÅ«pa GosvÄmÄ«; Å›unena - heard; bhÄgavata - the recitation of ÅšrÄ«mad-BhÄgavatam; prabhura ká¹›pÄya - by the mercy of Lord Caitanya; teá¹…ho - he; kṛṣṇa-preme - in love of Kṛṣṇa; matta - always maddened.
While he stayed with ÅšrÄ«la RÅ«pa GosvÄmÄ«, his engagement was to recite ÅšrÄ«mad-BhÄgavatam for him to hear. As a result of this BhÄgavatam recitation, he attained perfectional love of Kṛṣṇa, by which he remained always maddened.
RaghunÄtha Bhaá¹á¹ÄcÄrya, or RaghunÄtha Bhaá¹á¹a GosvÄmÄ«, one of the six GosvÄmÄ«s, was the son of Tapana MiÅ›ra. Born in approximately 1425 ÅšakÄbda (A.D. 1503), he was expert in reciting ÅšrÄ«mad-BhÄgavatam, and in Antya-lÄ«lÄ, chapter thirteen, it is stated that he was also expert in cooking; whatever he cooked would be nectarean. ÅšrÄ« Caitanya MahÄprabhu was greatly pleased to accept the food that he cooked, and RaghunÄtha Bhaá¹á¹a used to take the remnants of food left by ÅšrÄ« Caitanya MahÄprabhu. RaghunÄtha Bhaá¹á¹ÄcÄrya lived for eight months in JagannÄtha PurÄ«, after which Lord Caitanya ordered him to go to Vá¹›ndÄvana to join ÅšrÄ« RÅ«pa GosvÄmÄ«. ÅšrÄ« Caitanya MahÄprabhu asked RaghunÄtha Bhaá¹á¹ÄcÄrya not to marry but to remain a brahmacÄrÄ«, and He also ordered him to read ÅšrÄ«mad-BhÄgavatam constantly. Thus he went to Vá¹›ndÄvana, where he engaged in reciting ÅšrÄ«mad-BhÄgavatam to ÅšrÄ«la RÅ«pa GosvÄmÄ«. He was so expert in reciting ÅšrÄ«mad-BhÄgavatam that he would recite each and every verse in three melodious tunes. While RaghunÄtha Bhaá¹á¹a GosvÄmÄ« was living with ÅšrÄ« Caitanya MahÄprabhu, the Lord blessed him by offering him betel nuts offered to the JagannÄtha Deity and a garland of tulasÄ« said to be as long as fourteen cubits. Under RaghunÄtha Bhaá¹á¹a GosvÄmī’s order, one of his disciples constructed the Govinda temple. RaghunÄtha Bhaá¹á¹a GosvÄmÄ« supplied all the ornaments of the Govinda Deity. He never talked of nonsense or worldly matters but always engaged in hearing about Kṛṣṇa twenty-four hours a day. He never cared to hear blasphemy of a Vaiṣṇava. Even when there were points to be criticized, he used to say that since all the Vaiṣṇavas were engaged in the service of the Lord, he did not mind their faults. Later RaghunÄtha Bhaá¹á¹a GosvÄmÄ« lived by RÄdhÄ-kuṇá¸a in a small cottage. In the Gaura-gaṇoddeÅ›a-dÄ«pikÄ (185) it is said that RaghunÄtha Bhaá¹á¹a GosvÄmÄ« was formerly the gopÄ« named RÄga-mañjarÄ«.
