दिलीपस्तत्सुतस्तद्वदशक्तः कालमेयिवान् ।
भगीरथस्तस्य सुतस्तेपे स सुमहत् तपः ॥२॥

aÅ›aktaḥ kÄlam eyivÄn
bhagīrathas tasya sutas
tepe sa sumahat tapaḥ

 dilÄ«paḥ - named DilÄ«pa; tat-sutaḥ - the son of AmÅ›umÄn; tat-vat - like his father; aÅ›aktaḥ - being unable to bring the Ganges to the material world; kÄlam eyivÄn - became a victim of time and died; bhagÄ«rathaḥ tasya sutaḥ - his son BhagÄ«ratha; tepe - executed penance; saḥ - he; su-mahat - very great; tapaḥ - austerity.

Like Aá¹Å›umÄn himself, DilÄ«pa, his son, was unable to bring the Ganges to this material world, and he also became a victim of death in due course of time. Then DilÄ«pa’s son, BhagÄ«ratha, performed very severe austerities to bring the Ganges to this material world.
