भगीरथः स राजर्षिर्निन्ये भुवनपावनीम् ।

 bhagÄ«rathaḥ - King BhagÄ«ratha; saḥ - he; rÄja-ṛṣiḥ - the great saintly king; ninye - carried or brought; bhuvana-pÄvanÄ«m - mother Ganges, who can deliver the whole universe; yatra - in that place where; sva-pitá¹á¹‡Äm - of his forefathers; dehÄḥ - the bodies; bhasmÄ«bhÅ«tÄḥ - having been burnt to ashes; sma Å›erate - were lying.


Text

The great and saintly king Bhagīratha brought the Ganges, which can deliver all the fallen souls, to that place on earth where the bodies of his forefathers lay burnt to ashes.
