pañcÄÅ›ad Äsam uta pañca-sahasra-sargaḥ
nÄntaá¹ vrajÄmy ubhaya-ká¹›tya-manorathÄnÄá¹
mÄyÄ-guṇair há¹›ta-matir viá¹£aye 'rtha-bhÄvaḥ
ekaḥ - one only; tapasvÄ« - great sage; aham - I; atha - thus; ambhasi - in the deep water; matsya-saá¹…gÄt - by associating with the fish; pañcÄÅ›at - fifty; Äsam - got wives; uta - and what to speak of begetting one hundred sons in each of them; pañca-sahasra-sargaḥ - procreation of five thousand; na antam - no end; vrajÄmi - I can find; ubhaya-ká¹›tya - duties of this life and the next; manorathÄnÄm - mental concoctions; mÄyÄ-guṇaiḥ - influenced by the modes of material nature; há¹›ta - lost; matiḥ viá¹£aye - great attraction for material things; artha-bhÄvaḥ - matters of self-interest.
