एवंविधैः सुपरुषैः क्षिप्त्वाचार्यसुतां सतीम् ।
शर्मिष्ठा प्राक्षिपत् कूपे वासश्चादाय मन्युना ॥१७॥

 evam-vidhaiḥ - such; su-paruá¹£aiḥ - by unkind words; ká¹£iptvÄ - after chastising; ÄcÄrya-sutÄm - the daughter of ÅšukrÄcÄrya; satÄ«m - DevayÄnÄ«; Å›armiṣṭhÄ - ÅšarmiṣṭhÄ; prÄká¹£ipat - threw (her); kÅ«pe - into a well; vÄsaḥ - the garments; ca - and; ÄdÄya - taking away; manyunÄ - because of anger.

Using such unkind words, ÅšarmiṣṭhÄ rebuked DevayÄnÄ«, the daughter of ÅšukrÄcÄrya. In anger, she took away DevayÄnī’s garments and threw DevayÄnÄ« into a well.
