गत्वा माहिष्मतीं रामो ब्रह्मघ्नविहतश्रियम् ।
तेषां स शीर्षभी राजन् मध्ये चक्रे महागिरिम् ॥१७॥

 gatvÄ - going; mÄhiá¹£matÄ«m - to the place known as MÄhiá¹£matÄ«; rÄmaḥ - Lord ParaÅ›urÄma; brahma-ghna - because of the killing of a brÄhmaṇa; vihata-Å›riyam - doomed, bereft of all opulences; teá¹£Äm - of all of them (the sons of KÄrtavÄ«ryÄrjuna and the other ká¹£atriya inhabitants); saḥ - he, Lord ParaÅ›urÄma; Å›Ä«rá¹£abhiḥ - by the heads cut off from their bodies; rÄjan - O MahÄrÄja ParÄ«ká¹£it; madhye - within the jurisdiction of MÄhiá¹£matÄ«; cakre - made; mahÄ-girim - a great mountain.

O King, Lord ParaÅ›urÄma then went to MÄhiá¹£matÄ«, which was already doomed by the sinful killing of a brÄhmaṇa. In the midst of that city he made a mountain of heads, severed from the bodies of the sons of KÄrtavÄ«ryÄrjuna.
