स ऋषिः प्रार्थितः पत्न्या श्वश्र्वा चापत्यकाम्यया ।
श्रपयित्वोभयैर्मन्त्रैश्चरुं स्नातुं गतो मुनिः ॥८॥

sa ṛṣiḥ prÄrthitaḥ patnyÄ
Å›vaÅ›rvÄ cÄpatya-kÄmyayÄ
śrapayitvobhayair mantraiś
caruá¹ snÄtuá¹ gato muniḥ

 saḥ - he (ṚcÄ«ka); á¹›á¹£iḥ - the great saint; prÄrthitaḥ - being requested; patnyÄ - by his wife; Å›vaÅ›rvÄ - by his mother-in-law; ca - also; apatya-kÄmyayÄ - desiring a son; Å›rapayitvÄ - after cooking; ubhayaiḥ - both; mantraiḥ - by chanting particular mantras; carum - a preparation for offering in a sacrifice; snÄtum - to bathe; gataḥ - went out; muniḥ - the great sage.

Thereafter, ṚcÄ«ka Muni’s wife and mother-in-law, each desiring a son, requested the Muni to prepare an oblation. Thus ṚcÄ«ka Muni prepared one oblation for his wife with a brÄhmaṇa mantra and another for his mother-in-law with a ká¹£atriya mantra. Then he went out to bathe.
