The moon-god is one of the demigods, but to fight against the other demigods he took the assistance of the demons. Ĺukra, being an enemy of Bášhaspati, also joined the moon-god to retaliate in wrath against Bášhaspati. To counteract this situation, Lord Ĺiva, who was affectionate toward Bášhaspati, joined Bášhaspati. The father of Bášhaspati was Aáš girÄ, from whom Lord Ĺiva had received knowledge. Therefore Lord Ĺiva had some affection for Bášhaspati and joined his side in this fight. ĹrÄŤdhara SvÄmÄŤ remarks, aáš girasaḼ sakÄĹÄt prÄpta-vidyo hara iti prasiddhaḼ: âLord Ĺiva is well known to have received knowledge from Aáš girÄ.â
