यदा स देवगुरुणा याचितोऽभीक्ष्णशो मदात् ।
नात्यजत् तत्कृते जज्ञे सुरदानवविग्रहः ॥५॥

nÄtyajat tat-ká¹›te jajñe
sura-dÄnava-vigrahaḥ

 yadÄ - when; saḥ - he (Soma, the moon-god); deva-guruá¹‡Ä - by the spiritual master of the demigods, Bá¹›haspati; yÄcitaḥ - was begged; abhÄ«kṣṇaÅ›aḥ - again and again; madÄt - because of false pride; na - not; atyajat - did deliver; tat-ká¹›te - because of this; jajñe - there was; sura-dÄnava - between the demigods and the demons; vigrahaḥ - a fight.

Although requested again and again by Bá¹›haspati, the spiritual master of the demigods, Soma did not return TÄrÄ. This was due to his false pride. Consequently, a fight ensued between the demigods and the demons.
