Chapter 14: King Pururava Enchanted by Urvasi. Text 15-16

ततः पुरूरवा जज्ञे इलायां य उदाहृतः ।
तस्य रूपगुणौदार्यशीलद्रविणविक्रमान् ॥१५॥
श्रुत्वोर्वशीन्द्रभवने गीयमानान् सुरर्षिणा ।
तदन्तिकमुपेयाय देवी स्मरशरार्दिता ॥१६॥

tataḥ purÅ«ravÄ jajñe
ilÄyÄá¹ ya udÄhá¹›taḥ
tasya rÅ«pa-guṇaudÄrya-
śīla-draviṇa-vikramÄn
śrutvorvaśīndra-bhavane
gÄ«yamÄnÄn surará¹£iṇÄ
tad-antikam upeyÄya
devÄ« smara-Å›arÄrditÄ

 tataḥ - from him (Budha); purÅ«ravÄḥ - the son named PurÅ«ravÄ; jajñe - was born; ilÄyÄm - in the womb of IlÄ; yaḥ - one who; udÄhá¹›taḥ - has already been described (in the beginning of the Ninth Canto); tasya - his (PurÅ«ravÄ's); rÅ«pa - beauty; guṇa - qualities; audÄrya - magnanimity; Å›Ä«la - behavior; draviṇa - wealth; vikramÄn - power; Å›rutvÄ - by hearing; urvaśī - the celestial woman named Urvaśī; indra-bhavane - in the court of King Indra; gÄ«yamÄnÄn - when they were being described; sura-ṛṣiá¹‡Ä - by NÄrada; tat-antikam - near him; upeyÄya - approached; devÄ« - Urvaśī; smara-Å›ara - by the arrows of Cupid; arditÄ - being stricken.

Thereafter, from Budha, through the womb of IlÄ, a son was born named PurÅ«ravÄ, who was described in the beginning of the Ninth Canto. When his beauty, personal qualities, magnanimity, behavior, wealth and power were described by NÄrada in the court of Lord Indra, the celestial woman Urvaśī was attracted to him. Pierced by the arrow of Cupid, she thus approached him.
