श्रीशुक उवाच
निमिरिक्ष्वाकुतनयो वसिष्ठमवृतर्त्विजम् ।
आरभ्य सत्रं सोऽप्याह शक्रेण प्राग्वृतोऽस्मि भोः ॥१॥

Å›rÄ«-Å›uka uvÄca
nimir iká¹£vÄku-tanayo
vasiṣṭham avṛtartvijam
Ärabhya satraá¹ so 'py Äha
Å›akreṇa prÄg vá¹›to 'smi bhoḥ

 Å›rÄ«-Å›ukaḥ uvÄca - ÅšrÄ« Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« said; nimiḥ - King Nimi; iká¹£vÄku-tanayaḥ - the son of MahÄrÄja Iká¹£vÄku; vasiṣṭham - the great sage Vasiṣṭha; avá¹›ta - appointed; á¹›tvijam - the chief priest of the sacrifice; Ärabhya - beginning; satram - the sacrifice; saḥ - he, Vasiṣṭha; api - also; Äha - said; Å›akreṇa - by Lord Indra; prÄk - before; vá¹›taḥ asmi - I was appointed; bhoḥ - O MahÄrÄja Nimi.

ÅšrÄ«la Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« said: After beginning sacrifices, MahÄrÄja Nimi, the son of Iká¹£vÄku, requested the great sage Vasiṣṭha to take the post of chief priest. At that time, Vasiṣṭha replied, “My dear MahÄrÄja Nimi, I have already accepted the same post in a sacrifice begun by Lord Indra.â€
