Å›rÄ«-Å›uka uvÄca
evaá¹ sa sÄmabhir bhedair
bodhyamÄno 'pi dÄruṇaḥ
na nyavartata kauravya
puruá¹£ÄdÄn anuvrataḥ
Å›rÄ«-Å›ukaḥ uvÄca - ÅšrÄ« Åšukadeva GosvÄmÄ« said; evam - in this way; saḥ - he (Kaá¹sa); sÄmabhiḥ - by attempts to pacify him (Kaá¹sa); bhedaiḥ - by moral instructions that one should not be cruel to anyone else; bodhyamÄnaḥ api - even being pacified; dÄruṇaḥ - he who was the most fiercely cruel; na nyavartata - could not be stopped (from the grievous act); kauravya - O MahÄrÄja ParÄ«ká¹£it; puruá¹£a-adÄn - the RÄká¹£asas, man-eaters; anuvrataḥ - following in their footsteps.
