 saḥ - he; kadÄcit - once; sarasvatyÄḥ - on the bank of the SarasvatÄ«; upaspṛśya - after finishing morning ablutions; jalam - water; Å›uciḥ - being purified; vivikte - concentration; ekaḥ - alone; ÄsÄ«naḥ - being thus seated; udite - on the rise; ravi-maṇá¸ale - of the sun disc.

Once upon a time he [VyÄsadeva], as the sun rose, took his morning ablution in the waters of the SarasvatÄ« and sat alone to concentrate.

The river SarasvatÄ« is flowing in the BadarikÄÅ›rama area of the HimÄlayas. So the place indicated here is ÅšamyÄprÄsa in BadarikÄÅ›rama, where ÅšrÄ« VyÄsadeva is residing.
